Results of the clinical trials indicate that Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) heals a similar number of reflux esophagitis patients in four weeks as omeprazole does in eight weeks. In addition, Nexium provides freedom from dyspepsia symptoms like heartburn in significantly more patients than omeprazole, and the effect is faster and more sustained.
The more than 25 studies that are to be presented demonstrate the advantages that esomeprazole has over omeprazole. Some of these advantages include esomeprazole’s ability to heal reflux esophagitis in more patients in a shorter period of time, and to provide faster, more sustained symptom relief in treating acid-related disease.
Several of the studies to be presented highlight esomeprazole’s efficacy when used as on-demand therapy, its superior acid control, and greater heartburn resolution in comparison to omeprazole.
