UPRIMA USES:
Uprima is a prescription medication used for the treatment
of male erectile dysfunction or ED. Erectile dysfunction
is a condition in which a man cannot achieve an erection
sufficient enough for intercourse. Uprima helps men achieve
erections by stimulating the region of the brain called
the hypothalamus. As a result, the body increases the production
of dopamine, an important chemical in the body that helps
trigger erection.
HOW TO USE UPRIMA:
The normal recommended Uprima dose for is one 2 mg Uprima
tablet 20 minutes before engaging in sexual activity. Before
you take Uprima, drink a full glass of water. This will
help the Uprima tablet dissolve properly. After drinking
the water, place the Uprima tablet under your tongue and
let it dissolve slowly.
UPRIMA SIDE
EFFECTS:
Uprima, like all medications, may cause side effects. These
side effects are generally mild in nature. In most cases
they do not require you to quit treatment as a result. Common
side effects of Uprima are nausea, headache, dizziness,
yawning, sleepiness, infection, sore throat, pain, increased
cough, rhinitis, flushing, taste disorder and/or sweating.
In very rare incidences after using Uprima fainting might
occur. If you feel faint, lie down and raise your legs.
This should help alleviate any symptoms of faintness. If
you experience chest pains during intercourse, stop immediately
and contact your doctor. If prolonged side effects from
Uprima occur or if you experience any one of the previous
symptoms, stop Uprima treatment and consult with your doctor
immediately.
UPRIMA PRECAUTIONS:
Uprima is a prescription medication intended for healthy
men only. Uprima is not approved for women or children.
Do not take Uprima if:
You have ever had an allergic reaction to apomorphine or
any other ingredients found in Uprima. You suffer from severe
unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, severe heart
failure, hypertension, or any other heart problems. Your
partner is pregnant or breast-feeding. If you fall under
any one of the following conditions, use extra precautions
while taking Uprima and consult with your doctor before
taking Uprima: You have a deformity or disease of the penis.
You experience severe dizziness or feel faint after taking
Uprima. You are taking medications with nitrates. You have
liver or kidney problems. You have abnormally high blood
pressure. You are taking other treatments for erectile dysfunction
other than Uprima.
UPRIMA DRUG
INTERACTIONS:
The combination of Uprima with both nitrates and antihypertensives
(angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors beta-blockers,
calcium channel blockers, and alpha-blockers) has been studied.
The only significant findings were in the group of patients
who were taking nitrates. Since apomorphine is primarily
metabolised by sulphation and glucuronidation, compounds
that Inhibit or induce cytochrome P450 isotorms are not
expected to affect the pharmacokinetics of apomorphine.
Uprima interaction studies in volunteers where alcohol was
given with Uprima indicated that concurrent alcohol intake
may cause an increase in the incidence and extent of hypotension.
It IS therefore recommended that caution be observed when
administering Uprima to patients taking nitrates. No studies
have been performed with Uprima in combination with other
antiemetics hence other combinations are not recommended.
Uprima interaction studies and/or clinical experience with
ondansetron hydrochloride prochlorperazine maleate and domperidone
indicate that these agents may be given safely with Uprima.
A proportion (4/40) of these patients experienced vasovagal
symptoms and significant standing blood pressure decreases
when Uprima was administered at higher than the recommended
dose (5mg).
UPRIMA OVERDOSE:
The use of domperidone maleate a peripherally acting dopamine
antagonist used to counter emetic effects may be considered.
Uprima In high doses may induce vomiting. It is advised
that vital signs such as blood pressure and heart rate are
monitored. Treatment should be supportive and symptomatic.
Measures to avoid possible orthostatic hypotension should
be taken. If the Uprima tablets are swallowed the bioavailability
of apomorphine will be reduced by first pass metabolism.
There is no specific antidote available for Uprima.
UPRIMA NOTES:
A minimum time period of 8 hours should be allowed to elapse
prior to administering a subsequent Uprima dose. One Uprima
tablet should be administered approximately 20 minutes prior
to sexual activity. It is recommended that the patient be
started at the Uprima 2mg dose. The dose may be increased
on subsequent administrations to 3mg of Uprima if necessary
to reach the desired clinical effect.
MISSED UPRIMA
DOSE:
Not applicable for Uprima medication.
UPRIMA STORAGE:
Store Uprima at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees
F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not
store Uprima in a moist bathroom. Keep Uprima and all medications
out of the reach of children. |
